SHARING OBSERVATIONS
To understand Planet Earth

Aerial photographs can be poetically beautiful, but also technologically advanced. This black and white photograph reveals an ancient stone wall, photographed in oblique light over a forest during the leaf-free season. Aerial photography as a science requires a multidisciplinary eye to perform and interpret! A fascinating source for everyone interested in Natural and Cultural History.

The iBIRDSEYE is a division of The IK Workshop Society - a global and unique forum for all those who are interested in Natural & Cultural History from a bird’s-eye view.

Here, we gather around the fascinating world of aerial photography - interpretation, technique, angles, etc - a truly practical and theoretical multidisciplinary science. The human interest to see a landscape from a bird's eye view has followed mankind since time immemorial. Initially, from the hills and mountains, followed by an opportunity to observe landscapes from hot air balloons, aircraft, satellites and via drones in the present-day.

As an idea of documentation, it was used first by the artists, but mainly developed by photographers in pace with the technological innovations during the 1800s, occurring in camera and film techniques – where aerial photography over time largely went hand-in-hand with a multitude of specialised subject areas.

IK's iBIRDSEYE is based on a donation of a unique aerial picture collection from one of the pioneers of northern Europe in the field of scientific aerial photography, donated to The IK Foundation in 1988. The collection has been used in a large number of field works over the years, as a reference for the interpretation of other aerial photographs and locations, as well as being a bedrock for further development of aerial photography.

Aerial photography is such a wide ranging multidisciplinary subject, which gives the possibility to inspire from a theoretical as well as practical viewpoint. Experiments and sharing knowledge are an important part of pure science, therefore iBIRDSEYE is an enterprise built as a free resource for development, understanding and use – to see the world from a bird's-eye view.

By means of iBIRDSYE the preconditions are created for:
  • Field work, Expeditions,
  • Research projects,
  • Publicise, Publishing, Exhibitions,
  • Philanthropy.
- our motto is "Sharing Observations to Understand Planet Earth".
